Foundation stone of ‘Ophthalmology Specialty Hospital’ to be laid by Lions on Saturday

২৩ নভেম্বর : চক্ষু বিষয়ক একটি হাসপাতাল খুব শীঘ্রই যাত্রা শুরু করছে বরাকে। দক্ষিণ আসাম বিশেষ করে কাছাড়ের মানুষের জন্য এ এক দারুণ সুখবর। শিলচর সেন্ট্রাল লায়ন্স চক্ষু হাসপাতাল ও ইনস্টিটিউট অব অপথালমোলজি নামের এই হাসপাতালের শনিবার সকালে শহর লাগোয়া রামনগরের ডনবসকো স্কুলের পাশে ভিত্তিপ্রস্তর স্থাপন করবেন লায়ন্স ক্লাব ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ফাউন্ডেশনের চেয়ারম্যান ড. নরেশ আগরওয়াল। বৃহস্পতিবার লায়ন্স চক্ষু হাসপাতালে এক সাংবাদিক বৈঠক করে এ কথা জানালেন লায়ন্স ক্লাব অব শিলচর সেন্ট্রালের সভাপতি নীলাঞ্জন গুপ্ত।

বক্তব্য রাখতে গিয়ে চার্টার্ড প্রেসিডেন্ট অমরনাথ খান্ডেলওয়াল বলেন, এটা তাদের কাছে এক বিরাট প্রাপ্তি যে, লায়ন নরেশ আগরওয়াল এই হাসপাতালটির ভিত্তিপ্রস্তর স্থাপন করবেন। তিনি শিলচর লায়ন্স ক্লাবের ইতিহাসের ওপরও আলোকপাত করেন। ১৯৭৮ সালে ক্লাব প্রতিষ্ঠার পর থেকে এ পর্যন্ত গর্বের সঙ্গে এগিয়ে চলেছে বলে তিনি উল্লেখ করেন। তিনি বলেন, চক্ষু হাসপাতালটি প্রতি বছর প্রায় ১০০টি চক্ষু শিবির ও ৫০০০ অস্ত্রোপচারের ব্যবস্থা করে।

এ দিন বৈঠকে লায়ন্স ইন্টারন্যাশনালের ডিরেক্টর ভি কে লুথরা বলেন, শিলচর লায়ন্স ক্লাব এ অঞ্চলের মানুষের সেবায় যেভাবে কাজ করে যাচ্ছে, তার জন্য তারা ধন্যবাদের দাবিদার। তিনি এও বলেছেন, এই হাসপাতালটি পাশের রাজ্যগুলোর মানুষের জন্যও যথেষ্ট সহায়ক হবে।

বিশিষ্ট চক্ষুরোগ বিশেষজ্ঞ ডাঃ হর্ষ ভট্টাচার্য এই প্রকল্পের কারিগরি দিকের ওপর আলোকপাত করেন। তিনি বলেন, রামনগরের প্রস্তাবিত এই হাসপাতালটি একটি মানব সম্পদ উন্নয়ন কেন্দ্র হিসেবেও কাজ করবে। এখানে মেডিকেল ও প্যারা মেডিকেল কর্মীদের প্রশিক্ষণের ব্যবস্থা থাকবে। লায়ন্স ক্লাব ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ফাউন্ডেশনের চেয়ারম্যান ড. নরেশ আগরওয়াল বলেন, শিলচর লায়ন্স ক্লাবের পাশে তিনি সবসময় থাকবেন। তিনি আরও বলেছেন, বর্তমানে বিশ্বের ২১৪টি দেশে লায়ন্স ক্লাবের ৪৮০০০ শাখা রয়েছে। শিলচর সেন্ট্রালেরই চারটি ক্লাব রয়েছে। তিনি আরও জানান, নতুন হাসপাতালটি ৫ বিঘা জমির উপর নির্মিত হবে। ভবনটির ব্যবহারযোগ্য এলাকা হবে ৮০ হাজার বর্গফুট। হাসপাতালে তিনটি ব্লক থাকবে এবং প্রতিটি ব্লকই ৫ তলাবিশিষ্ট হবে। প্রকল্পটির আনুমানিক ব্যয় বরাদ্দ ধরা হয়েছে ১০০ কোটি টাকা।

এদিন বৈঠকটি সঞ্চালনা করেছেন অরিন্দম ভট্টাচার্য এবং শেষে ধন্যবাদসূচক বক্তব্য রাখেন যশোবন্ত দাস। এই সাংবাদিক বৈঠকে লায়ন্স ক্লাবের প্রোগ্রাম চেয়ারম্যান ডিস্ট্রিক্ট গভর্নর এম এল আগরওয়াল, জি কে চক্রবর্তী, সুমন্ত্র সারথি এন্দো, ত্রিবেণী প্রসাদ চক্রবর্তী, দেবপ্রসাদ কর, সুমিত দাস প্রমুখ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

November 23: A state-of-the art Ophthalmology Specialty Hospital will soon be ready to cater to the eye related issues of the people of Southern Assam in general and Cachar in particular. The foundation stone of the new venture ‘Silchar Central Lions Eye Hospital & Institute of Ophthalmology’ will be laid on Saturday at 9 AM by Lion Dr. Narresh Aggarwal. This was informed by Lion Nilanjan Gupta, President of Lions Club of Silchar Central while delivering the welcome address in a Press Meet organised by them at their Eye Hospital on Thursday.

The said Ophthalmology Specialty Hospital will be built at Ramnagar, Silchar. Chartered President Lion Amarnath Khandelwal of the club Lion Amit Khandelwal, while speaking during the Press Meet said that they were fortunate enough to have Lion Dr. Narresh Aggarwal to do the honour of laying the foundation stone on Saturday. He also highlighted the history of Lions Club of Silchar Central. The club since its foundation in 1978 has been marching ahead with pride. The Lions Eye Hospital performs around 5000 operations and conducts 100 eye camps per year.

Speaking during the occasion V.K. Luthra, International Director of Lions congratulated Lions Club of Silchar Central for offering their best services to the people of the region. He said that the new multi-specialty  eye hospital will also cater to the needs of the people of the neighbouring states.

Eminent opthamologist Dr. Harsha Bhattacharjee highlighted the technical aspect of the upcoming project and said that the upcoming hospital at Ramnagar will also act as a human resource development centre where medical and para-medical persons will be trained.

Lion Dr. Narresh Aggarwal, the Chairman of Lions Club International Foundation and  also the immediate past President of LCI was also present in the press meet. He spoke about the functioning of the Lions and assured to stand besides the present endeavour of Lions Club of Silchar Central. He said that at present there are 48,000 Lions Club in 214 countries of the world out of which Silchar alone has 4 clubs. As regards the upcoming project, he said that the new hospital will be build in a total area of 5 bighas. The carpet area of the buiding will be 80,000 sq. feet. It will have 3 blocks and each block will have 5 floors. The total project cost is estimated at 100 crore.

The members of the Lions Club of Silchar Central informed that the foundation stone laying ceremony will also be graced by Ministers of the Government of Assam, NPCB officials, International Directors and Lion dignitaries from all over India. The programme was compered by Lion Arindam Bhattacharjee while the vote of thanks was delivered by Jashabanta Das.

The Press meet was also attended by its Programme Chairman District Governor of Dist.322G M.L. Agarwal, Dr. G.K. Chakraborty, Sumantra Sarathi Endow, Project Head Tribeni Prasad Chakraborty, Dr. Devoprasad kar, Sumit Das and others.
