বরাক বইমেলার উদ্বোধন করলেন মন্ত্রী পরিমল

৯ নভেম্বর : জ্ঞানের অত্যন্ত প্রয়োজনীয় উৎস হচ্ছে বই। আর বইমেলা হলো সেই জ্ঞান সম্পদের আধার। শিলচরের বিপিন চন্দ্র পাল মাঠে বরাক বইমেলার উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে বক্তব্য রাখতে গিয়ে এ কথা বলেন প্রাক্তন কেন্দ্রীয় মন্ত্রী কবীন্দ্র পুরকায়স্থ। শুক্রবার বিকেলে অন্য অতিথিদের সঙ্গে নিয়ে প্রদীপ জ্বালিয়ে এই বইমেলার উদ্বোধন করেন রাজ্যের মন্ত্রী পরিমল শুক্লবৈদ্য। এ দিন বইমেলার মঞ্চটি উৎসর্গ করা হয়েছে বিশিষ্ট জননেতা প্রাক্তন মন্ত্রী প্রয়াত মহীতোষ পুরকায়স্থের নামে।

উদ্বোধনী সভায় পৌরোহিত্য করে আয়োজক বঙ্গ সাহিত্য ও সংস্কৃতি সম্মেলনের কাছাড় জেলা কমিটির সভাপতি তৈমুর রাজা চৌধুরী বলেন, এই বইমেলা আয়োজন করতে গিয়ে তাঁদের অনেক বাধা বিপত্তি ডিঙিয়ে আসতে হয়েছে। বইমেলা আয়োজনের জন্য এই মাঠের ব্যবস্থা করে দেওয়ায় তিনি মন্ত্রী পরিমল শুক্লবৈদ্যকে ধন্যবাদ জানান। এই মাঠের জন্য তিনি শিলচর পুরসভাকেও ধন্যবাদ জানান। তিনি আরও জানান, পাবলিশার্স অ্যান্ড বুকসেলার্স গিল্ড কলকাতা থেকে শিলচরে বই নিয়ে আসার খরচ বহন করতে প্রাথমিকভাবে অসম্মত হয়েছিল।এরপর বঙ্গ সাহিত্য বই এখানে নিয়ে আসার জন্য অতিরিক্ত ৭০ হাজার টাকা বহন করতে রাজি হয়। তবে তিনি এও বলেছেন, বরাকবঙ্গের এই অতিরিক্ত ব্যয় ভার তখনই সার্থক হবে, যদি প্রচুর সংখ্যায় বইপ্রেমী মেলা প্রাঙ্গণে আসেন।

মন্ত্রী পরিমল শুক্লবৈদ্যও আয়োজক কমিটির এই উদ্যোগের প্রশংসা করেন। তিনি প্রতিটি মানুষের জীবনে বইয়ের প্রয়োজনীয়তার কথা উল্লেখ করেন। তিনি বলেন, বইমেলার উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে যারাই উপস্থিত হয়েছেন, সবাই নিশ্চয়ই বই ভালবাসেন। এই বরাক বইমেলা আয়োজন করতে আগামী দিনেও তিনি যতটা সম্ভব সাহায্য করবেন। তিনি আরও বলেন, রাজ্যের মুখ্যমন্ত্রী সর্বানন্দ সনোয়াল মন থেকে চাইছেন যে বরাক ও ব্রহ্মপুত্র উপত্যকার মধ্যে একটি মজবুত সেতু তৈরি হোক।

এ দিন সভায় কাছাড়ের জেলাশাসক ডাঃ এস লক্ষণন বইমেলাকে জনপ্রিয় করে তোলার জন্য কিছু পরামর্শ দেন। আয়োজকদের উদ্দেশ্যে আর্জি জানিয়ে তিনি বলেছেন, মঞ্চে আসীন অতিথিদের ফুলের তোড়ার বদলে বই উপহার দেওয়ার জন্য। বইমেলায় বেশি সংখ্যায় মানুষকে আকর্ষণ করতে বইমেলা প্রাঙ্গণে তিনি কুইজ প্রতিযোগিতা আয়োজনের কথা বলেন। পরিশেষে জেলাশাসক সাধারণ মানুষকে ন্যূনতম ১ হাজার টাকার বই কিনতে অনুরোধ জানান। সঙ্গে তিনি যোগ করেন, এই বইগুলো আগামী দিনে এক বড় সম্পদ হয়ে উঠবে।

বইমেলার আহবায়ক প্রদীপ আচার্য তাঁর বক্তব্যে একটি পরামর্শ দিয়ে বলেছেন, গান্ধীবাগ ও বিপিন চন্দ্র পাল মাঠের মধ্যে একটি করিডোর তৈরি করে দিলে আসা-যাওয়ার অনেক সুবিধা হবে। এ দিন বইমেলার উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে অন্যদের মধ্যে উপস্থিত ছিলেন কবি জিতেন নাগ, শিলচর পুরসভার চেয়ারম্যান নীহারেন্দ্র নারায়ণ ঠাকুর, জেলা ক্রীড়া সংস্থার উপদেষ্টা বাদল দে, বরাক বঙ্গের কেন্দ্রীয় কমিটির সাধারণ সম্পাদক সব্যসাচী রায়, কাছাড় জেলা কমিটির সম্পাদক জয়ন্ত দেবরায় প্রমুখ।

November 9: Books are necessary source of wisdom and Book Fairs are places where such wealth of wisdom is stored. These were the words uttered by former Union Minister Kabindra Purkayastha in his speech on the occasion of the inauguration of Barak Book Fair 2018 at Silchar Bipin Chandra Paul field. On Friday, the Book Fair was inaugurated by lightning the lamp by state Cabinet Minister Parimal Suklabaidya in the presence of a host of dignitaries on the dias. The dias was dedicated to the memory of Mahitosh Purkayastha.

In his welcome address, President of the Cachar  District Committee of Banga Sahitya Taimur Raja Choudhury who also presided over the inaugural ceremony upholded the various barriers which they had to overcome to make this event happen. He specially thanked Minister Parimal Suklabaidya for lending his helping hand in making the field fit for organising the Book Fair. He also thanked Silchar Municipality for helping them in the field. Even the Publishers & Booksellers Guild refused to take the burden of transporting books primarily from Kolkata to Silchar. In this regard Mr. Choudhury informed that Banga Sahitya had to bear that additional burden of around Rs Seventy Thousand. But he went on to say that the efforts of Banga Sahitya will be successful, if people visit the Book Fair in large numbers.

State Minister Parimal Suklabaidya lauded the efforts of the organising committee. He highlighted the importance of books in the life of human beings. He said that all those who were present during the inaugural ceremony are  book lovers. He said that he will definitely try his level best so that in the future too he can be of help to Barak Book Fair. He also said that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal too wants from his heart that there should be a bridge between Barak & Brahmaputra.

In his speech, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar Dr. S. Lakshmanan put forward some suggestions for popularising the Book Fair. He urged upon the organisers to give books to the dignitaries on the dias instead of bouquet. He further suggested to organise quiz competition in the venue which would attract much people. Finally, Dr. S. Lakshmanan urged upon the people to purchase books worth atleast Rs one thousand because books will be a great treasure in the future.

A suggestion was put forward in his speech by the Convener of the Book Fair Pradip Acharjee. He proposed for a corridor between Gandhi Bagh and Bipin Chandra Paul Meeting ground.

Also present during the inaugural ceremony were Guest of Honour Poet Jiten Nag, Chairman Silchar Municipal Board Niharendra Narayan Thakur, Adviser of DSA Badal Dey, General Secretary of Central Committee of Banga Sahitya Sabyasachi Roy, Secretary of Cachar District Committee Jayanta Deb Roy, Convener of the Book Fair Pradip Acharjee.
