28 new COVID-19 positive cases detected in Hailakandi; total tally 889

29 July: 28 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from South Assam’s Hailakandi district on Wednesday, taking the total tally to 889. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 28 positive cases on Wednesday, 19 cases have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). 449 swab results turned out to be negative. Altogether A total of 114 cases have been found positive under RAT so far with scores of them without travel history. Another SBI employee of Hailakandi branch and an employee of Hailakandi Treasury have been tested corona positive under RAT.

Meanwhile, the last rites of a woman, who was COVID-19 positive, and died due to complicacies at the time of delivery at SMC&H on Tuesday were carried out at the College Road crematorium in Hailakandi town as per COVID-19 protocols relating to disposal of dead body of a COVID victim on Wednesday evening. Joint Director, Health Services, Dr.A Barman said that as the woman afflicted with COVID-19 ultimately succumbed to gynaecological problems at the time of delivery, the cause of her death would be accounted for as ‘non-COVID’. Dr. Barman said the report would be sent to the State level Death Audit Board for COVID-19 related death for taking the final decision. Earlier, another person afflicted with COVID-19 was declared ‘non-COVID’ by the State level Death Audit Board as he died due to co-morbidities at SMC&H on July 20 last.

28 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals on Wednesday, taking the total number of persons released to 745. The number of active cases in the district is currently 140. 31 persons are undergoing treatment at SK Roy designated COVID Civil Hospital, 11 at SMC&H, 38 at Algapur Model COVID Hospital, 2 HPC’s COVID Care Centre Guest House, 8 at HPC’s Hospital COVID Care Centre, 2 nos at Model School Girls’ Hostel COVID Care Centre and 48 at Adarsha Vidyalaya COVID Care Centre.

Two COVID-19 positive patients viz., Mangoli Rani Das, 53, and Foijul Haque Barbhuiya, 65, breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Only 86 persons are currently under facility quarantine centres while 6,355 under home quarantine. Of the 14,603 swab samples taken, 12,576 turned out to be negative. Swab results of 372 persons are awaited.
