Speeding truck breaks several shops and a house at Silchar Ashram Road

১১ অক্টোবর : গভীর রাতে ১২ চাকার একটি ট্রাকের ধাক্কায় বড় ধরনের দুর্ঘটনা ঘটল শিলচর আশ্রম রোডে। এতে কোনও প্রাণহানির খবর না থাকলেও গাড়ির জোর গতির মুখে ব্যাপক ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছে ঘরবাড়ি, দোকানপাট। ট্রাকের ধাক্কায় ৭টি বৈদ্যুতিক খুঁটি ভূপতিত হয়েছে। এছাড়াও একটি রিকশা, একটি ঠেলা, দুটি খাবারের দোকান পুরোপুরি নষ্ট হয়েছে। ট্রাকের আঘাতে ভেঙে পড়েছে একটি মুদির দোকান সহ একটি দ্বিতল ভবনের তিনটি খুঁটি।

দুর্ঘটনাটি ঘটেছে বৃহস্পতিবার শেষরাত তিনটে নাগাদ শহরের আশ্রম রোড পয়েন্টে। এলাকার বাসিন্দারা জানান, এএস ০১ জেসি ৭৭৪৩ নম্বরের ১২ চাকার এলপি ট্রাকটি রামনগর থেকে ন্যাশনাল হাইওয়ে পয়েন্টের দিকে যাচ্ছিল। গাড়ির চালকের আসনে ছিল সহ-চালক। আশ্রম রোড পয়েন্টে এসে চালক গাড়ির নিয়ন্ত্রণ হারিয়ে দুর্ঘটনার মুখে পড়ে। স্থানীয়রা অভিযোগ করেন, চালক মাতাল অবস্থায় ছিল। আর সে কারণেই দুর্ঘটনাটি ঘটেছে। ট্রাকের চালক জনৈক রুদ্রাক্ষ ছেত্রী বলে জানা যায়। খবর পেয়ে পুলিশ দ্রুত ঘটনাস্থলে পৌঁছলেও সহ-চালক গাড়ি ফেলে রেখেই গা ঢাকা দেয়। তবে রাতে পুলিশ অভিযান চালিয়ে সহ-চালককে গ্রেফতার করেছে।

পুলিশ জানায়, গাড়ির চালক এটি চেংকুড়ি রোডে পার্কিং করে গিয়েছিলেন। কিন্তু সহ-চালক এ ব্যাপারে চালককে কিছু না জানিয়ে গাড়ি নিয়ে রামনগর চলে যায়। কিন্তু রামনগর থেকে ফেরার সময় মাদকাসক্ত অবস্থায় দুর্ঘটনায় পড়েন। এ দিন সকালে গাড়িটি উদ্ধার করতে গিয়ে পুলিশ ক্রেনের সাহায্য নেয়।

দুর্ঘটনায় আশ্রম রোডের বাসিন্দা সুখরঞ্জন তালুকদারের পাকা বাড়ির তিনটি পিলার ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছে। ওয়ে টু বরাকের সঙ্গে কথা বলতে গিয়ে তালুকদার জানান, তিনটি পিলার ভেঙে যাওয়ায় তাঁর পুরো ঘরটি ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত। তাছাড়া ভবনের অন্য অংশেও একাধিক ফাটল ধরেছে। ফলে পুরো ঘরটিই অকেজো হয়ে পড়েছে। তিনি বলেন, ক্ষতির পরিমাণ লক্ষ টাকার উপর হবে।

অন্যদিকে, আশ্রম রোড এলাকার ৭টি বৈদ্যুতিক খুঁটি ভেঙে পড়ায় অন্ধকারে ডুবে রয়েছে পুরো আশ্রম রোড। বিদ্যুৎ বিভাগ যুদ্ধকালীন পরিস্থিতিতে সারাইয়ের কাজ করছে। দুর্ঘটনায় অন্য যাদের ক্ষয়ক্ষতি হয়েছে তাদের মধ্যে রয়েছেন গোপাল দাস, নিশি সরকার, জয়দীপ পাল, বিদ্যুত দাস, কৃষ্ণধন দাস, জয়তী দাস ও গোবিন্দ দাস।

October 11: In an incident of reckless driving, a 12-wheeler LP Truck smashed 7 electric poles, 1 rickshaw, 1 handcart, 2 movable food stalls, 1 grocery shop and 3 pillars of a 2 storeyed building. The accident occurred at around 3 in the early morning today (Thursday) at Ashram Road point.

It was learnt that the 12-wheeler LP Truck bearing N0.AS01 JC 7743 was coming from Ramnagar towards National highway, Silchar. The handyman who was driving the vehicle at a high speed lost control at Ashram Road point and broke several things. Local people have alleged that the handy man was drunk while the accident occurred. The owner of the truck is Rudhraksha Kshetri.

Police forces reached the spot and took the truck in their custody. The handyman who absconded initially was later on nabbed by the police. Sources have informed that the truck was parked by the driver at Chenkuri Road, Silchar. But the handyman without the knowledge of the driver took the truck and went to Ramnagar. It was while coming from Ramnagar that the handyman under influence of ‘alcohol’ caused the accident. Crane was called by the police to remove the truck from the spot.

Meanwhile, Sukharanjan Taluqdar, whose pillars of the RCC building was broken by the truck was totally shattered. While speaking to way2barak, Mr. Taluqdar said that, three major pillars of his 2-storeyed RCC building were broken. Several cracks have also developed in the building. As a result, his entire building has become useless. He estimated that his loss will run into lakhs of rupees.

Three was no electricity the whole day in the greater Ashram Road area as 7 electric poles were also broken by the truck. Work was on by the electricity department to restore power supply. The other victims whose shops, rickshaw and handcart were broken are Gopal Das, Nishi Sarkar, Joydeep Paul, Bidyut Das, Krishnadhan das, Joyoti Das and Gobinda Das.
