NRC:Torch rally rocks the streets of Silchar, Solgan raised ‘We are not termites’

২ অক্টোবর : ১০টি নথি নয়, ১৫টি নথিই বৈধ থাকতে হবে এনআরসিতে। এই দাবি নিয়ে মশাল হাতে মঙ্গলবার সন্ধ্যায় পথে নেমেছেন মানুষ। নিঃশর্ত নাগরিকত্ব দাবি মঞ্চের আহবানে শিলচর রাঙ্গিরখাড়ি নেতাজি মূর্তির পাদদেশ থেকে শুরু হয়েছে এই প্রতিবাদ যাত্রা। শুধু আয়োজক সংগঠনই নয়, বিভিন্ন সামাজিক ও সাংস্কৃতিক সংগঠন, আত্মসহায়ক দল সাধারণ মানুষ নাগরিকত্বের প্রমাণ হিসেবে পাঁচটি নথি বাতিল করায় সরব হয়েছেন।নাগরিকপঞ্জির প্রামাণ্য নথি হিসেবে বাতিল পাঁচটি নথিকে মান্যতা দেওয়ার দেওয়ার দাবিতে আজ করিমগঞ্জেও এক মিছিল শহর পরিক্রমা করে। এই মিছিলে বিভিন্ন স্তরের মানুষ শামিল হয়েছিলেন।

যতই এগিয়ে গেছে, ততই আকারে বড় হয়েছে মিছিল, প্রতিবাদের ভাষা। মিছিল থেকেই একসময় আওয়াজ ওঠে, আমরা উইপোকা নই। আমরা এ দেশেরই নাগরিক। প্রসঙ্গত, কিছুদিন আগে বিজেপি সভাপতি অমিত শাহ উদ্বাস্তদের উইপোকা বলে মন্তব্য করেছিলেন।

আসলে এই মিছিল সাধারণ প্রতিবাদ নয়, অস্তিত্বের সংকট যখনই বাঙালিকে অক্টোপাসের মতো ঘিরে ধরেছে, তখনই ধনী-গরিব নির্বিশেষে সবস্তরের মানুষ বেরিয়ে পড়েছেন রাস্তায়। হঠাৎ করে বৈধ পাঁচটি নথি বাতিল করে দেওয়ায় বহু পরিবারের মানুষ অবসাদে ভুগছেন। আয়োজকরাও মনে করেন, সম্মিলিত মানুষের এই প্রতিবাদ অবশ্যই উৎকণ্ঠার শিকার নিপীড়িত মানুষকে আশা জোগাবে।

এ দিকে, মিছিলটি শহরের প্রধান সড়ক পরিক্রমা করে গিয়ে পৌছায় ক্ষুদিরাম মূর্তির সামনে। সেখানে বিভিন্ন বক্তা এনআরসির প্রমাণ হিসেবে মোট ১৫টি নথিকেই মান্যতা দেওয়ার দাবি জানান। নেলেকের পক্ষে শান্তনু নায়েক বলেন, তাদের সংস্থা প্রথম থেকেই বলে এসেছে যে, এই সংকটময় সময়ে মানুষের পাশে তারা রয়েছেন। যে ৫টি নথি বাতিল করা হয়েছে, সেগুলোকে বহাল করতে নেলেক সুপ্রিম
কোর্টে পুনরায় আপিল করবে। এ দিন অন্যদের মধ্যে কমল চক্রবর্তীও এ ব্যাপারে সাধারণ মানুষের আতঙ্কের চিত্র তুলে ধরেন।

এ দিন মিছিলে বিভিন্ন সংগঠনের মধ্যে আন্তর্জাতিক মানবাধিকার সংস্থা, রানি রাসমণি স্মৃতিমঞ্চ, উদয়ের পথে, নেলেক, সারা আসাম হিন্দু বাঙালি সংস্থা, ACTA Cachar, সারা বাঙালি যুব ছাত্র সংস্থার সদস্যরাও অংশ নিয়েছেন।

শিলচরের মতো করিমগঞ্জেও বাতিল ৫টি নথিকে মানতা দেওয়ার দাবিতে আজ রাস্তায় বেরোন সাধারণ মানুষ। তবে এই মিছিলে শুধুমাত্র হিন্দু বাঙালিদের নাগরিকত্ব সুনিশ্চিত করার দাবি জানানো হয়েছে।

October 2: Scrapping of 5 vital documents out of 15 for claiming one’s citizenship in relation to NRC has become the common outcry for the people of this valley. A strong demand was raised to keep the 15 documents valid, which were originally specified for proving Indian citizenship. Raising this demand, a torch rally was taken out at Silchar on Tuesday evening under the aegis of Unconditional Citizenship Demand Forum. The rally began at 5 PM from near the statue of Netaji at Rangirkhari. Various associations, individuals, renowned citizens participated in this torch rally. However, a similar rally was also taken out at Karimganj, but the slogans raised over there confined the scope of the demands on the basis of religion.

As the rally proceeded, the number of participants started to increase. At a time, the streets were full of torch and the atmosphere was surcharged with slogans. However, till Premtola point, slogans were raised only against Hajela.

However, as the rally reached near Goldighi Mall, all of a sudden the mood of the rally changed to one of more forceful nature. Slogans were raised “We are not termites,” “Dare not to call the 40 lakh as Bangladeshi”, “The 40 lakhs are not intruders.” It was announced that Hajela is just a cog in the big machine. The deletion of 5 documents is part of a larger plot against the Bengali speaking people of this valley. It needs mention in this connection that a few days ago, BJP President Amit Shah called the 40 lakh people as ‘termites’ whose names were not included in the final draft.

This was not any common rally. It was rather a conglomeration of people driven by the voice of conscience. When a community is engulfed from all sides like an octopus, there remains no other option for the common people but to take to the streets. The organizers feel that the torch rally will kindle hopes in the mind of those who are at the receiving end due to the faulty policies of the government.

The torch rally went straight through the heart of the town and finally reached near the statue of Khudiram. Speakers highlighted the demand of regarding the 15 documents valid for proving the citizenship. Santanu Naik on behalf of NELECC said that in this hour of crisis, they are besides the people. NELECC will file a PIL in the Supreme Court very soon. Among others, Kamal Chakraborty too spoke of the miserable condition of the people.

A number of organizations such as, Unconditional Citizenship Demand Forum, NELECC, International Human Rights Association, Silchar, Rani Rashmoni Smriti Mancha, Uday er Pothe, All Assam Hindu Bengali Association, All Bengali Youth and Students Association, Cachar Zone of Assam college Teachers’ Association (ACTA) YASE and others participated in this torch rally.

At Karimganj town also, a torch rally was taken out on the same issue. However, the rally failed to give it a neutral look and confined itself to demand citizenship only for the Hindu Bengalis.The main slogan raised at Karimganj was “We will not tolerate harassment of the Hindu-Bengalis”, “We demand unconditional citizenship for the Hindu-Bengalis.” Thus, in this hour of crisis, Karimganj failed to give a united stand.
