GS Roy Birth Centenary Committee gives aid to 120 poor families

April 12: Amidst the outbreak of coronavirus, India is passing through a phase of lockdown. Along with the government many individuals, NGOs, business houses and organisations have come forward to help the poor and needy. On Sunday, Late Gauri Shankar Roy Birth Centenary Committee distributed food materials among 120 families in greater Malugram area of Silchar. Each of them were given 3 kg rice, 1 kg potato, half kg dal and salt.

Present during the distribution of aid were Sanjeev Roy, Chandrabati Roy, Brijbhan Singh, Nonda Roy, Usha Roy, Sahabuddin Ahmed, Archana Das, Monoj Das, Subham Roy, Maya Dixit, Sanjiban Roy and Gaurav Roy. The programme was anchored by Bandita Trivedi.

It needs mention that Late Gauri Shankar Roy was four times MLA of Katlicherra constituency, a renowned freedom fighter and a wel known INTUC Leader of Assam. His Birth Centenary Celebration started on 12 July, 2019 and will conclude on 12 July, 2020. As per the decision of the committee, every month one programme has been organised and today’s event is serially the 9th monthly programme.
