- 11 April, 1814: French Emperor Napoleon abdicates unconditionally; he is exiled to Elba.
- 11 April, 1827: Jyotirao Govindrao Phule (Jyotibha Phule), an eminent social reformer and 19th century thinker was born on this day. He is known for championing the peasant rights and rights of the other low-class people. He also advocated women education in India and revolted against the caste system prevalent in the country at that point of time. Phule was one of the very first to start an orphanage for destitute children.
- 11 April, 1869: Kasturba Gandhi, wife of Mahatma Gandhi, was born.
- 11 April, 1887: Jamini Roy, Indian artist, was born. He was honoured with the State award of Padma Bhushan in 1955.
- 11 April, 1900: The first modern submarine designed and built by John Philip Holland is purchased by the U.S. Navy.
- 11 April, 1912: RMS Titanic leaves Queenstown, Ireland, for New York.
- 11 April, 1930: Lakshman Jhuka, made of steel wire in Rishikesh was thrown open to the public on this day. The famous 284-feet hanging bridge across the river Ganga that connects two villages is a structure made out of iron which is suspending at a height of 70-feet from the river.
- 11 April, 1964: Communist Party of India (CPI) spilt into two parties after 32 members walked out from its national council meeting. Differences of leadership was touted as the reason behind the division of the party. One group was pro-China while the other was pro-USSR.
- 11 April, 1976: The Apple I computer, created by Steve Wozniak is released.
- 11 April, 1997: The ten-month-old HD Deve Gowda government lost the confidence motion.
