• 17 March, 1527: Battle of Khandwa was fought on this day in Khandwa, Rajasthan. This was the second most important war in the attempt by the Mughals to establish their rule in India. The war happened between Rana Sanga of Mewar and Babar. In the war, Babar ended up defeating Rana Sanga and consolidated the Mughal empire in India.
• 17 March, 1776: On this day, the British troops were forced to leave the Boston region of the United States. So relieved were the Americans on the departure of the British, that the residents of Suffolk County and other cities, including Boston, declared March 17 as a public holiday.
• 17 March, 1905: Albert Einstein finishes his scientific paper detailing his Quantum Theory of Light, one of the foundations of modern physics.
• 17 March, 1920: Birth anniversary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was a Bengali politician and a Statesman. He is often regarded as the driving force behind the independence of Bangladesh. He helped found the Mukti Bahini and let the Bangladeshi freedom struggle against Pakistan. He served as the 1st President and later as prime minister of independent Bangladesh from 17 April 1971 until his assassination on 15 August 1975.

Besides being the Tibetans’ most revered spiritual leader, the 14th Dalai Lama, a Nobel Prize laureate, is a global symbol of peace and tolerance.
