BJPs ‘Mission 100’: Many sitting MLAs may not get party ticket in 2021 polls!

BJP making Report Cards for MLAs

February 16: After its successful performance in the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, the BJP is eyeing to repeat the success in the Assam Assembly polls to be held later next year. Since then, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma & State BJP President Ranjit Kumar Dass had announced its “Mission 100”.

The top BJP brass in the state aired the view that they will not only retain power in 2021, but also win over 100 of the total 126 assembly seats in the state. The BJP, which came to power in 2016 in Assam, has 61 members in the current assembly. Along with alliance partners, BJP now has 87 seats in the 126 assembly seats in the state.

Sources in the state BJP revealed that all 61 sitting MLAs might not get party ticket during the 2021 Assembly polls. As per reports, state BJP has decided to prepare a report card for all the sitting MLAs and other party leaders on the basis of the works performed by them. If sources are to be believed, then atleast 4 sitting MLAs of Cachar district may not get tickets from BJP this time.

In the post-CAA scenario, BJP too has ushered in change in its poll strategy. Meanwhile, the Congress too announced a target of winning 80 out of 126 seats in the Assembly polls in Assam in 2021. The Congress currently has 25 MLAs in the state Assembly out of 126 seats.

However, the million dollar question creating ripples within state BJP are who are those sitting MLAs for whom a saffron ticket may not be that easy in 2021. Well, the picture will be clear once the party completes preparaing the report cards of its sitting MLAs. Till then it’s only speculations which would do the political circles within the saffron bastion.
