Seminar organised by Late Gauri Shankar Roy Birth Centenary Celebration Committee at Joymangal High School

September 22: A seminar was organised by ‘Late Gauri Shankar Roy Birth Centenary Celebration Committee’ at ‘Joymangal High School’ at Krishnapur, near lala bazaar in Hailakandi. The Joymangal High School was founded by Late Gauri Shankar Roy in 1960. Further, 6 retired teachers of the school Sushanto Kumar Nath, Abdul Latif Barbhuiya, Mokharam Ali Laskar,  Johur Ahmed Laskar, Boshir Uddin Tapadar and Sirajuddin Laskar were felicitated on the occasion.

The ceremony was presided over by Ataur Rahman Laskar, ex-Principal of Charlmars High School, Katlicherra. He and the other speakers Siraj Uddin Laskar, Retired headmaster of Mohammadpur ME School, Ali Akbar Barbhuiya, Jawaharlal Roy(president of the celebration committee) and others praised the deeds of late Roy not only for the people of Katlicherra but also of Barak Valley as a whole. They termed Late Roy as the leader of the masses and a man of principle with secular ideology.

Sanjeev Roy, the youngest son of Late Gauri Shankar Roy and Secretary of the Celebration committee conveyed his heartfelt thanks to the Headmaster and Managing Committee of Joymongol High School for their relentless cooperation in making the occasion a grand success. Sanjeev also committed that his family and the entire celebration committee will always stand by the school at their every need.

Aainul Haque Choudhury, Headmaster of Joymongol High School conveyed his gratefulness to late Mr Roy for whom the entire area of Krishnapur and Greater Katlicherra could see the ray of education. Some of the speakers were also in tears during their deliberations. On behalf of Late Roy’s family and the celebration committee, Pradip Roy, Durgesh Kurmi, Pradip Kurmi, Sakhi Bhattacharjee, Chandrabati Roy, Nanda Roy, Sahabuddin Ahmed, Rajiv Rai and Santosh Roy were present. Mokhram Ali Laskar, a close associate of Late Gauri Shankar Roy was also present inspite of severe illness. The programme was compered by Babul Narayan Kanu, Editor of the Magazine sub-committee.

It was the third programme taken up by the Celebration Committee in connection with their decision to do one programme per month from 12 July, 2019 to 12 July 2020.
