Cyber security expert Subimal Bhattacharjee spoke on “Aadhar: Data Privacy & Security” in G.C. College

August 20: Security is a vast space, right from the security guard in front of your building to the complicated lines of code that keep away hackers from your database. If I am able to get past your walls be it physical or digital, it’s a clear security breach. We could start playing the blame game here. You need to start to educate yourself about how security works, especially when you give away your sensitive information to people who may not be so concerned about your security. These were the words of caution uttered by cyber security expert Subimal Bhattacharjee while speaking at G.C. College, Silchar. On Tuesday, Mr. Bhattacharjee delivered a lecture on “Aadhar: Data privacy and security” in the prestigious college of Barak Valley, which was attended by the faculty members and students of the college.

Subimal Bhattacharjee was accorded a cordial welcome by the Principal of G.C. College, Dr Bibhas Deb, Prof. Ashish Bhattacharjee- Vice Principal of the College and Prof, Joydeep Bhattacharjee, Coordinator IQAC. He spoke on the emergence of the digital age and how Aadhar was the biggest identity project in the whole world and how technology had made it possible. He said that In any kind of system, the basic core will always be secure, but any such core system has to interact with a larger ecosystem and this ecosystem always bring the problem to the table. As such, he suggested to keep us abreast about how to keep oneself secured in this digital world.

Mr.Bhattacharjee mentioned about the demographic and biometric aspects of Aadhar and how they worked together and their operational security parameters. The whole UIDAI Infrastructure and the processes involved was explained lucidly by him. He cited examples of how introduction of Aadhar in direct benefit transfer schemes have saved more that Rs 1 lakh crores of public money in the last 3 years. He stressed that the new data protection bill that is likely to be tabled in the parliament will bring in many changes to protect personal data at all levels.

The whole auditorium was full of students who interacted with Shri Bhattacharjee at the end of his lecture. The young minds came up with curious questions which were satisfactorily explained by the cyber security expert in such a lucid language that the entire audience appeared to be spell bound.
