Rose Valley: CBI arrests producer Shrikanth Mohta of Shree Venkatesh Films

২৪ জানুয়ারিঃ রোজভ্যালি মামলায় প্রযোজক শ্রীকান্ত মোহতাকে গ্রেফতার করল সিবিআই। বৃহস্পতিবার শ্রীভেঙ্কটেশ ফিল্মসের কর্ণধারকে তাঁর কসবার অফিস থেকে তুলে নিয়ে যায় গোয়েন্দা আধিকারিকরা। পরে সল্টলেকের সিজিও কমপ্লেক্সে নিয়ে গ্রেফতার করা হয় তাঁকে।

কসবার একটি অভিজাত মলের ১৯ তলায় শ্রীভেঙ্কটেশ ফিল্মসের অফিস। সেই সময় নিজের দফতরেই ছিলেন শ্রীকান্ত মোহতা।

 

এর আগে এনফোর্সমেন্ট ডিরেক্টরেটের তদন্তেও শ্রীকান্ত মোহতার নাম উঠেছিল। সেই রিপোর্টের সূত্র ধরেই রোজভ্যালি কর্ণধার জেলবন্দি গৌতম কুণ্ডু দাবি করেন, রোজভ্যালি গোষ্ঠীর টেলিভিশন চ্যানেলের সঙ্গে ২০১০ সালে শ্রীকান্তের শ্রীভেঙ্কটেশ ফিল্মসের একটি চুক্তি হয়েছিল। সেই চুক্তি অনুযায়ী, ওই প্রযোজনা সংস্থা রোজভ্যালির চ্যানেলকে ২৫ কোটি টাকার বিনিময়ে ৭০টি ছবি রোজভ্যালির চ্যানেলে দেখানোর স্বত্ত্ব বিক্রি করে।

পরে রোজভ্যালির তরফে আদালতে জানানো হয়, চুক্তি অনুযায়ী সদ্য মুক্তিপ্রাপ্ত ছবিও দেওয়ার কথা ছিল। কিন্তু যে ৩০টি ছবি শ্রীভেঙ্কটেশ ফিল্মস দিয়েছিল তার মধ্যে অধিকাংশই ছিল পুরনো। সিবিআইয়ের দাবি, ওই চুক্তিতে এটাও উল্লেখ ছিল যে রোজভ্যালি থেকে পাওয়া টাকা দিয়ে তারা ছবি বানাবে। তার ছোট পর্দার সম্প্রচার সত্ত্বও থাকবে রোজভ্যালিরই হাতে। কিন্তু, সেই শর্তও পূরণ করেননি শ্রীকান্ত মোহতা। কার্যত সেই টাকা তিনি আত্মসাৎ করেছেন। সেই অভিযোগের তদন্তেই ধরা পড়লেন শ্রীকান্ত মোহতা।

January 24: Shrikant Mohta, head of Shree Venkatesh Films, a renowned film production company of eastern India was arrested by the CBI in the Rose Valley case. Shrikant Mohta was detained from his office in south Kolkata’s Kasba on Thursday. Shrikant Mohta was brought to the CBI office at Salt Lake and then arrested. Mohta is likely to be taken to Bhubaneswar on Thursday and produced before a court on Friday.

The film producer had taken Rs. 25 crore from Gautam Kundu, head of chit-fund company Rose Valley, who is currently in jail. Shrikant Mohta was to produce several films for the Rose Valley group with that money. He did not deliver, and when Mr Kundu asked him for his money, Shrikant Mohta allegedly warned him off — dropping several powerful names along the way.

Known to be close to members of the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, he is often seen in their company. The opposition Congress, CPI(M) and BJP demanded an explanation from the TMC regarding Mohta’s arrest as the film distributor is considered to be close to the ruling party.

Mohta is the co-founder of Shree Venkatesh Films, which has produced over 120 films, including Chokher Bali and Memories in March, Raincoat, Iti Mrinalini, Baishey Srabon and Hemlock Society. Some of the country’s top actors and directors have worked with Shrikant Mohta’s company.

The CBI has accused Rose Valley chairman Gautam Kundu and three others of defrauding investors from across the country of over Rs 17,000 crore. The agency is probing both the Saradha and Rose Valley multi-crore scams.
