১৩ জানুয়ারি : দীর্ঘদিন থেকেই দু’জনের মধ্যে প্রেমের সম্পর্ক। সবকিছু ঠিকঠাকই চলছিল। কিন্তু হঠাত করে নতুন জায়গায় সম্বন্ধ স্থির হওয়ায় মাথাটা আর ঠিক রাখতে পারল না প্রেমিক মহম্মদ আলি। প্রেমিকার বাড়ি রাত কাটিয়ে সকালে গলা কেটে প্রেমিকা সুলতানা বেগম মজুমদারকে খুন করল সে। এরপর আলি আত্মহননেরও চেষ্টা করে। কিন্তু বরাতজোরে সে বেচে যায়। চাঞ্চল্যকর ঘটনাটি ঘটেছে রবিবার হাইলাকান্দির পার্শ্ববর্তী বাউয়ারঘাটে।

মহম্মদ আলি মূলত বিহারের খাগারিয়া জেলার বাসিন্দা হলেও গত ৬-৭ বছর ধরে রয়েছে বাউয়ারঘাটে। এখানকার একটি ইটভাটায় সে কাজ করে। বাউয়ারঘাটে থাকার সুবাদে সুলতানার ভাই মোস্তাফার সঙ্গে তার পরিচয়। এভাবে তাদের বাড়িতে আসাযাওয়ার সূত্র ধরে প্রেমের শুরু। কিছুদিন ধরে প্রেম চলতে থাকায় দু’জনে বিয়ের সিদ্ধান্তও নিয়ে ফেলেছিলেন। কিন্তু হঠাত করে নিমাইচাঁদপুরে সুলতানার বিয়ে ঠিক হয়ে যাওয়ায় তাদের পরিকল্পনা ভেস্তে যায়।

শনিবার রাতে আলি সুলতানার বাড়িতে উপস্থিত হয়। রাত এখানেই কাটায়। জানা গেছে, সুলতানার পাশের ঘরে সে ঘুমিয়েছিল। সকালে আর মাথা ঠিক রাখতে না পেরে সে ছুরি দিয়ে প্রেমিকাকে খুন করে। এরপর নিজে আত্মঘাতী হওয়ার চেষ্টা করলেও বরাতজোরে বেচে যায়। গুরুতর আহত অবস্থায় আলিকে শিলচর মেডিক্যাল কলেজ হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়।

এ দিকে, সকালে খবর পেয়ে ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট ত্রিদীপ রায়কে নিয়ে ছুটে যায় পুলিশ। মেয়েটির মৃতদেহ উদ্ধারের পর জখম আলিকে হাসপাতালে পাঠায়। এ খবর লেখা পর্যন্ত আলির অবস্থা সংকটজনক।

January 13: In a sensational incident, a youth killed his girlfriend by slitting her throat and then himself attempted suicide in a similar manner. The incident took place in the early morning on Sunday at a place called Bauarghat Part I in Hailakandi district of Assam. The name of the deceased girl is Sultana Begum Majumdar. Both were found to lie in a pool of blood in the floor of the room.

As per information provided by the local residents, a youth called Mohammad Ali Khan had a love affair with Sultana from the same village. Mohammad Ali Khan is an inhabitant of Khagariya in Bihar. He used to work as a labourer in a brick industry at Bauarghat village. There at the industry, he became friendly with a boy of the same village and also used to go off and on to his house. Mohammad Ali fell in love with the sister of his friend. Her name was Sultana.

This love affair was not approved by the parents of Sultana and they arranged her marriage with a person at Nimaichandpur village in Hailakandi. Mohammad Ali stayed at the house of sultana on Saturday night where he came to know that Sultana will get married to somebody else on 30 January. He woke up early in the morning on Sunday and entered Sultana’s room with a sharp machete and slit her throat. After that, he also slit his own throat with the same machete.

Within a short time, Sultana’s family members found them lying in a pool of blood. they raised a hue and cry. Within a short time, Police Officer Surajit Choudhury along with Magistrate Tridip Roy reached the spot of the crime. Both of them were immediately rushed to Hailakandi Civil Hospital. The doctors on duty declared Sultana to be dead. Her body was sent for post-mortem. The condition of Mohammad Ali Khan being too serious was sent to Silchar Medical college and Hospital. In the meantime, the brother of Sultana filed a police complaint against Mohammad Ali.
