২৮ ডিসেম্বরঃ শুক্রবার সন্ধ্যায় শিলচর শহরের হাসপাতাল রোড এলাকায় আলোছায়া স্টুডিও-র বিপরীতে এক বিধ্বংসী অগ্নিকাণ্ডের ঘটনা ঘটেছে। এ দিন সন্ধ্যা ৬টায় আগুন লাগে একটি বড় ভবনের ঠিক পেছনে থাকা কয়েকটি আসাম টাইপ ঘরে। এখানে একটি দোকানের গুদাম ইত্যাদি রয়েছে বলে জানা গেছে। তাছাড়া এই নতুন ভবনটিতে এ দিনই উদ্বোধন হয়েছে ঘোষ মিস্টান্ন ভাণ্ডারের নতুন দোকানটি।

প্রত্যক্ষদর্শীরা জানান, হঠাত করে আগুন দেখে এলাকায় মানুষের ছোটোছুটি শুরু করেন। খবর দেওয়া হয় দমকলের ইঞ্জিনকে। দেরি না করে ছুটে আসে মোট চারটি ইঞ্জিন। খুব তাড়াতাড়ি আগুন নেভানোর কাজ শুরু করে। আগুন এতো দ্রুত ছড়িয়ে পড়ে যে, অনেক দূর থেকে শিখা ও ধোয়া দেখা যাচ্ছিল। তবে আগুন লাগার কারণ জানা যায়নি। এলাকার জনৈক বাসিন্দা জানান, আসাম টাইপের একটি ঘরে মিস্টির দোকানের কারখানা রয়েছে। তবে কেউ কেউ মনে করছেন, এই দোকান থেকেই আগুনের সূত্রপাত। একটি রান্নার গ্যাসের সিলিন্ডার থেকেই আগুন ছড়িয়ে পড়ে বলে তারা মনে করছেন। একটি সূত্রে জানা গেছে, এই জায়গায় থাকা পিনাক দাস, জগদীশ দেবনাথ ও দিলীপ বণিকের দোকান রয়েছে।

এদিকে এই আগুন লাগার খবরে প্রচুর মানুষের ভিড় জমে যায়। ভিড় মোকাবিলায় পুলিশকে হিমশিম খেতে হয়েছে। তাছাড়া সন্ধ্যা রাতে রাস্তায়ও প্রচুর যানবাহনের ভিড় ছিল। এ খবর লেখা পর্যন্ত আগুন আয়ত্বে আনা সম্ভব হয়েছে।

December 28: A major fire broke out at Rangirkhari, opposite Alo Chaya Studio on Friday at around 6 in the evening. Fire broke out in some Assam pattern houses and godowns behind a building where a new confectionary shop ‘Ghosh Mistanna Bhandar’ was inaugurated just today.

Four fire brigades rushed to the spot and immediately started to douse the fire. Flames and smoke could be seen from far. The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained. It was learnt from some unconfirmed source that in one of the Assam pattern structure there exists a sweet making factory. Locals have aired the view that probably fire broke from LPG cylinder. The houses of Pinak Das, Jagadish Debnath and Dilip Banik were learnt to have gutted in the fire.

Meanwhile, a huge crowd has accumulated in the spot. Traffic police team has reached the spot and are trying to manage the crowd as well as vehicles. Till the writing of the news, the fire was partially under control.
