মার মহিলাকে মারধর, বিক্ষোভ শিলচরে
Hmar lady assaulted, protest demonstration at Silchar

১৯ ডিসেম্বর : মার সম্প্রদায়ের এক মহিলাকে মারধর করে তাঁর গর্ভপাত ঘটানো ও পরে তা সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ায় আপলোড করার প্রতিবাদে বুধবার বিক্ষোভ প্রদর্শন করলেন মার সংগঠনের সদস্যরা। তাঁদের সঙ্গে আরও কয়েকটি সংস্থাও এই ন্যাক্কারজনক ঘটনার প্রতিবাদ জানিয়েছে। এ দিন এ ঘটনাকে কেন্দ্র করে শিলচর জেলাশাসকের কার্যালয় চত্বর উত্তাল হয়ে ওঠে। মার ছাত্র সংস্থা কড়া ভাষায় জানিয়েছে, অভিযুক্তদের বিরুদ্ধে মামলা করার পরও পুলিশ তাদের গ্রেফতার করছে না।

একটি কুকুর বিক্রি নিয়ে ঘটনার সূত্রপাত। শিলচর জেল রোড এলাকায় ওরিয়েন্টাল স্কুলের সামনে যে বাজার বসে, সেখানেই জনৈক মার মহিলা একটি কুকুর বেঁধে রেখেছিলেন। কেন কুকুর বেঁধে রেখে বিক্রি করা হচ্ছে, তা নিয়ে সরব হয় কয়েকজন যুবক ও যুবতী। প্রথমে উত্তেজিত কথাবার্তা, এরপর শুরু হয়ে যায় মারধর। অভিযোগ অনুযায়ী, এরা গ্রেসি নামে এক মহিলাকে নির্মমভাবে মারধর করে। গুরুতর আহত অবস্থায় তাঁকে শিলচর মেডিক্যাল কলেজ হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়। ডাক্তাররা জানান, গর্ভস্থ সন্তানের মৃত্যু হয়েছে। পরে তাঁর গর্ভপাত করানো হয় বলে জানান গ্রেসির মা। তিনি জেলাশাসকের কার্যালয়ের সামনে সাংবাদিকদের বলেন, ওই আক্রমণকারীদের মধ্যে ৬টি ছেলে ও ৩টি মেয়ে ছিল।

এ দিকে মার ছাত্র সংস্থার সভাপতি জেলাশাসকের কার্যালয়ের সামনে অভিযোগ করেন, এই উন্মত্ত ছেলেমেয়েরা পুরো ঘটনাটি সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ায় পর্যন্ত আপলোড করেছে। এতে তিনজনকে স্পষ্ট চেনাও গেছে বলে তিনি দাবি করেন। এদের বিরুদ্ধে শিলচর সদর থানায় তাঁরা মামলা দায়ের করেন। কিন্তু অভিযুক্তরা পুলিশের নাকের ডগায় ঘুরে বেড়ালেও তাঁদের গ্রেফতার করা হচ্ছে না। এ নিয়ে তাঁরা জেলাশাসক ও পুলিশ সুপারকে স্মারকপত্র জমা দিয়েছেন।

তিনি এও বলেন, অভিযুক্তরা এ মর্মে আগাম জামিনের জন্য আবেদন করেছেন বলে তাঁদের কাছে খবর রয়েছে। কিন্তু এমন হলে তাঁরা আরও জোর প্রতিবাদ গড়ে তুলবেন। তাঁরা জেলা প্রশাসনের কাছে ন্যায় বিচার আশা করছেন। এ দিন মার ছাত্র সংস্থা ছাড়াও মণিপুরি ছাত্র সংস্থা, ট্রাইবাল সংঘ, খাসি, নাগা, চরাই, ডিমাসা সম্প্রদায়ের প্রতিনিধি সহ বহু মানুষ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

December 19: Two ladies Gracy and Lalmonpui and belonging to the Hmar community was physically assaulted and later on the video was uploaded in the social media. The incident was vehemently criticised by different organisations. On Wednesday, a protest demonstration was held near the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar. They alleged that inspite of lodging a complaint with the police, no arrests have been made so far. A number of organisations like Barak Valley Hmar Students’ Union, Dimasa Students Union, Manipur Youth’s Front Assam, All Assam Manipuri Students Association and some others led the demonstration with placard in their hands. They demanded the arrest of the culprits within 24 hours.

On 24 November, two ladies were physically assaulted allegedly by by some youth at a roadside market in Jail Road Silchar (opposite Oriental School). The incident started on the issue of selling ‘dog’s meat.’ A Hmar lady had tied a dog in front of the vegetables which she was selling. Two girls first had a alteration of words with Hmar vendors Gracy Hmar and Lalmonpui. They alleged that they were planning to sell the meat of dog. Later on, they also physically assaulted them. Gracy was hospitalised in a serious condition. There the doctors informed that the lady was pregnant and that she had a miscarriage. Gracy told news-persons on Wednesday that a team comprising of 6 boys and three girls attacked her.

On the other hand, President of the Hmar Students’ Union alleged that those youth after physically assaulting the ladies uploaded the video in the social media. He further claimed that in that video 3 accused could be clearly identified. A case was filed at Silchar Sadar police Station against the accused. But though the accused were roaming free in the town but the police has not acted upon their complaint. In this regard, they have submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner and Police Super.

They said that if the accused are not arrested immediately then they will be compelled to launch a vigorous agitation.
