5th Cabinet Meeting held in Guwahati, several key decisions taken
4 new Forensic Laboratories to come up including 1 at Silchar Medical College
June 16: The fifth Cabinet Meeting of the Government of Assam was held on Wednesday which was chaired by Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. Several important issues were discussed and crucial decisions were taken in the meeting. The decisions of the cabinet were conveyed by Minister Pijush Hazarika and Keshab Mahanta during a press conference as spokespersons for the Government of Assam along with Ajanta Neog and Dr. Ranoj Pegu.
The key decisions taken at the Cabinet Meeting are as follows:
1) The Cabinet decided to set up 4 new Forensic Laboratories at Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh, Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Tezpur Medical College and Hospital and Bongaigaon Civil Hospital.
2) A decision was taken to empower the Social Welfare Department to procure rice directly from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) for the Supplementary Nutrition Programme under ICDS, to reduce costs.This will result in a reduction of at least Rs. 8 per kg of rice and at least Rs.50 crore per annum.
3) Cabinet approved the statutes of Madhabdev University at Narayanpur, Bhattadev University at Bajali, Pathsala, Birangana Sati Sadhani State University at Golaghat and Rabindranath Tagore University at Hojai, to facilitate smooth functioning.
4) The Cabinet recommended that it would not be possible to conduct HSLC, High Madrassa and HS final year examinations in view of the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic . A final decision would be taken in this regard on June 18 at a meeting between the Education Department and various other stakeholders.

5)The cabinet decided not to allow home isolation to any Covid19 patient who does not have separate accommodation facility at home.
