Bishnu Kar’s last rites performed

অসংখ্য মানুষের চোখের জলে চিরবিদায় নিলেন সাংস্কৃতিক কর্মী, শিক্ষক বিশ্বজিত (বিষ্ণু) কর। শিলচর শ্মশানঘাটে তাঁর শেষকৃত্য সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। আজ সকালে বিষ্ণুবাবুর মৃতদেহ মাসিমপুরে উদ্ধার হয়। সেখান থেকে শিলচর মেডিক্যাল কলেজে ময়নাতদন্তের জন্য নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। পরে বাড়িতে নিয়ে গেলে চোখের জল ধরে রাখা ছিল কষ্টকর। স্ত্রীকে শান্ত্বনা জানানোর ভাষা ছিল না কারও কাছে। সকলের প্রিয় বিষ্ণুবাবুকে বাড়ি থেকে সমকাল কার্যালয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। সেখানে রূপম, দশরূপক এবং পূবালীর পক্ষ থেকে শ্রদ্ধাঞ্জলি অর্পণ করা হয়। বহু সাধারণ মানুষও শেষশ্রদ্ধা জানান নির্ভেজাল মানুষ হিসেবে পরিচিত বিষ্ণুবাবুকে।

শ্মশানের পথে রওয়ানা হতেই শোকমিছিল দীর্ঘ থেকে দীর্ঘতর হয়। সবশেষে বিষ্ণুবাবুর দাদা বিপ্লব কর, নিকটাত্মীয় অনিমেষ ধর, সুপ্রদীপ দত্তরায়, সুপ্রবীর দত্তরায়-রা যখন মুখাগ্নি করছিলেন, তখন উপস্থিত কেউ কান্না চেপে রাখতে পারেননি।

It was indeed a day of deep mourning for those who were close to Biswajit (Bishnu) Kar. Tears rolled down the eyes of the people who attended his funeral procession. It was an emotionally surcharged atmosphere and large number of people gathered to have a glimpse of the deceased.

He was drowned during immersion of Manosha idol in river Barak at Sadarghat on Saturday evening. Inspite of massive search by NDRF, on Saturday & Sunday, he could not be traced. Finally, on Monday morning his dead body was found floating in the river near Machimpur. After the process of identification, his body was sent to Silchar Medical College for post-mortem. When his mortal body was taken to his residence at Ambicapatty, it was really a heart breaking scene. His wife who till Monday morning nourished hopes of Bishnu’s return broke down completely on seeing his mortal body.

A teacher by profession, Bishnu Kar was also a cultural activist. All his kith and kin, admirers joined his funeral procession which was taken from his home to the office of ‘Samakal’ cultural organization of which Bishnu Kar was an active member. Over there he was offered floral tributes by the members of Rupam, Dasharupak and Pubalee. His last rites were performed at Silchar Crematorium. Known for his amiable nature, his death has been mourned by many.
