36 teams participated in Innovators Exhibition & Workshop at Assam University
August 28: The Innovation Club of Assam University, Silchar organised a one-day Innovators Exhibition and Workshop at Netaji Mukta Mancha on Tuesday. As many as 36 teams comprising of students from different schools across Barak Valley participated in the competitive event with their models which were displayed at the venue.
Prof R.R. Dhamala, Vice Chancellor in-charge of the University expressed her happiness and said that each one of us have an inventor within ourselves which if realised can work wonders in the pursuit to do things to solve the day to day problems. She informed that since the start of the Innovation Club in 2013 inaugurated by former President Pranab Mukherjee, the Club has been working to provide platforms to the budding innovators with such events to showcase their creative bent of mind.
However, Prof. Dhamela also expressed concerns on the hindrances affecting the manifestation of innovation at the larger spectrum. Dr Ravikrishnan Elangovan, Associate Professor of IIT Delhi delivered his talk on ‘Role of Partnerships in Translating Diagnostic Innovation.’ He stressed upon the need for building up cohesive units to Foster innovative pursuits.
Dr Mohammad Ahmaruzzaman from NIT Silchar presented a talk on water pollution and it’s treatment while Dr Rajarshi Ghosh from Department of Chemistry, The University of Burdwan spoke on ‘Invention and Innovation: Global Perspectives.’ Prof Sk.Jasimuddin, Coordinator of the exhibition and workshop delivered the welcome address.
The Senior level competition was held among students of Classe 11 and 12. The 1st prize was secured by Beacon Junior College, Badarpur. Maharshi Vidya Mandir, Silchar got the 2nd prize and Paragon Junior College bagged the 3rd prize. Whereas, in the Junior level innovative model competition among students of Class 9 and 10, VKV Ramnagar, Saraswati Shishu Niketan, Dolu and VKV, Barjalenga secured the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively.
