24-hour chakka bandh on Thursday called by Motor Transport Association

October 3: When on one hand, people of the state are busy preparing for Durga Puja, the All Assam Motor Transport Association (AAMTA) on the other hand has called for a 24-hour Chakka Bandh from 5 AM on Thursday in Assam. The bandh will end at 5 AM on Friday.

The Chakka Bandh has been called by AAMTA in demand of increasing the fare of the passenger buses by the Assam Transport Department. AAMTA state Vice President Bhaben Bhattacharyya said that though the price of diesel has increased several times, but the transport department has not increased the fare. The last fare hike came way back on 11 October, 2012.

It was since 2016 that AAMTA has been demanding fare hike, but the government has not yielded to their demand. Though the state transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary assured them in July that he will give positive thoughts to the demand of AAMTA, but since then nothing has happened.
