2022 FIFA World Cup: Argentina beats Netherlands 4-3 on penalties & qualify for the semi-finals

way2barak, Dec.10: Five-time champions Brazil was crashed out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup after losing 2-4 on penalties to 2018 FIFA World Cup runners-up Croatia in the quarter-finals. Croatia became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals. Whereas, in the 2nd match, Argentina also qualified for the semi-finals after defeating the Netherlands 4-3 on penalties.

Virgil van Dijk steps forward to take the first penalty kick but his attempt is saved by Emi Martinez to his right. The Argentina skipper Lionel Messi steps up and calmly puts it past Noppert. With this Argentina scored 1-0 against Netherland. Steven Berghuis’s came out for the 2nd penalty kick for the Dutch. His attempt is saved. Another save from Martinez, the goalkeeper of Argentina. Then came Paredes of Argentina to take the 2nd penalty and he scores to Noppert’s right. Argentina have a two goal cushion. Teun Koopmeiners steps up and scores. Argentina with a 1/3. Weghorst takes Netherlands fourth kick and the goal scorer for the Dutch on the night converts (2-3).Fernandez took Argentina’s fourth shot . But the number 24 hits it wide to the left. Goal missed (2-3). Luuk De Jong took the fifth for Holland and yes it was a goal. (3-3). Lautaro Martinez took the 5th penalty kick for Argentina and puts the ball inside the net. (Arg 4- Ned 3).

Earlier, in the 2nd quarter final match, Argentina and Netherlands scored 2 goals each before the match went for extra time. Wout Weghorst scored both the goals for Netherlands. Wout Weghorst, on for Depay, scores four minutes after his arrival. A cross from the right and the substitution, tall man coming on, proves fruitful for the Netherlands. The Netherlands equalise in the 101st minute as Wout Weghorst scores his second goal.

For Argentina, the two goals were scored by Molina and Lionel Messi respectively. It’s Messi’s 95th goal for Argentina on his 170th appearance for his country and his tenth in the World Cup, taking him level with Gabriel Batistuta as Argentina’s all-time top goal scorer in the competition. Lionel Messi converts a penalty to make it 2-0. Here’s how it went, a slow run up and a pause towards the end.
