Kripanath Mallah becomes new Deputy Speaker of Assam Assembly

২৬ সেপ্টেম্বরঃ রাতাবাড়ির বিধায়ক কৃপানাথ মালাই অসম বিধানসভার ডেপুটি স্পিকার নির্বাচিত হলেন। এই নির্বাচনে কোনও প্রার্থী দেয়নি বিরোধী দলগুলি। বুধবার বিধানসভায়  বিনা প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতায় বিজয়ী বলে ঘোষণা করতেই দল-মত নির্বিশেষে সবাই তাঁকে স্বাগত জানান। আবেগে আপ্লুত নতুন ডেপুটি স্পিকার বলেন, ‘এটি আমার কাছে ঐতিহাসিক দিন।’ তিনি মুখ্যমন্ত্রী সর্বানন্দ সোনোয়াল ও বিজেপি নেতৃবৃন্দ সহ শাসক-বিরোধী দলের বিধায়কদের প্রতি কৃতজ্ঞতা জানান। কৃপাবাবু বলেন, তিনি স্পিকারের সঙ্গে দেখা করে বিধানসভা পরিচালনার খুঁটিনাটি জেনে নেবেন। প্রয়োজনীয় সময়ে তাঁকে সাহায্য করবেন। বিজেপি বিধায়ক হলেও আসনে বসে নিরপেক্ষতা রক্ষার চেষ্টা করবেন।

শিলচরের বিধায়ক দিলীপকুমার পালের ইস্তফার দরুন এই পদে নির্বাচন করতে হয়। বিজেপি কৃপাবাবুকে প্রার্থী করে বিভিন্ন দিক সামলে নেয়। প্রথমত, দিলীপবাবুর ছেড়ে যাওয়া পদ বরাক উপত্যকাতেই রইল। দ্বিতীয়ত, নবনির্বাচিত ডেপুটি স্পিকার চা জনগোষ্ঠীর প্রতিনিধি হওয়ায় তাঁদেরও লোকসভা নির্বাচনের আগে বিশেষ বার্তা দেওয়া গেল। কৃপাবাবু কংগ্রেস টিকিটে একই আসন থেকে জিতেছিলেন। এ বার জেতেন বিজেপি প্রার্থী হিসেবে।

September 26: Ratabari MLA Kripanath Mallah of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. The post of Deputy Speaker was lying vacant since May 8 this year after Silchar MLA Dilip Kumar Paul resigned from this post citing personal issues.

He was earlier with the Congress and won the 2003 by-election and 2011 Assembly polls on Congress ticket. Known to be close to heavyweight minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, Kripanath Mallah too joined the BJP and won the 2016 Assembly polls from BJP. Hitendra Nath Goswami, Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly made the official declaration of the victory of Mr. Mallah in the floor of the Assembly today.
