৫ এপ্রিলঃ শহরের ভোট টানতে প্রাক্তন পুরপতি তমাল বণিককে মাঠে নামালেন শিলচরের কংগ্রেস প্রার্থী সুস্মিতা দেব। বিধানসভা নির্বাচনে টিকিট বিতর্কে দুজনের মধ্যে সম্পর্কের ব্যাপক অবনতি হয়েছিল। সাংসদের কাজকর্ম নিয়ে নানা প্রশ্ন তুলেছিলেন তমালবাবু। সঙ্গে শৈবাল দত্ত, অতনু ভট্টাচার্য। শহরের কংগ্রেস তাঁদের দৌলতে সুস্মিতাবাহিনীর বাইরে চলে গিয়েছিল। লোকসভা নির্বাচন ওই গোষ্ঠীকে আবার কাছাকাছি টানতে সক্ষম হয়েছেন প্রার্থী সুস্মিতা দেব।

বহু মান-অভিমানের পর তাঁর প্রচারে নামতে রাজি হলেন শিলচর আসনে বিধানসভা টিকিটের প্রধান দাবিদার তমাল বণিক। শুক্রবার সাংবাদিক সম্মেলন করলেন তাঁর পক্ষে। তাতে তিনি মূলত বিজেপি নেতৃত্বাধীন শিলচর পুরসভার বিরুদ্ধে তোপ দাগেন। তুলোধোনা করেন বর্তমান পুরপ্রধান নীহারেন্দ্র নারায়ণ ঠাকুরকে। রঞ্জন রায় ছাড়া সমস্ত কংগ্রেস পুরসদস্যদের পাশে বসিয়ে তমালবাবু একের পর এক বলে যান, এই দল কখনও কথা রাখে না। পুর নির্বাচনে ৩৭টি প্রতিশ্রুতি দিয়েছিল। ২৪-২৫টিতে হাতই পড়েনি। বাকি কাজে জনসাধারণের তেমন লাভ হয়নি। মূল লক্ষ্য ছিল ঠিকাদারি। সে সব কাজে আবার কংগ্রেস জেতা ওয়ার্ডগুলিকে বঞ্চিত করা হয়েছে।

তিনি সত্তরোর্ধ্ব নীহারবাবুকে অকর্মণ্য বলে অভিহিত করেন। বলেন, কংগ্রেস বোর্ড বিদায় নেওয়ার সময় ২১ লক্ষ টাকার মঞ্জুরি রেখে এসেছিল। ঠাকুরের বোর্ড ওই টাকা কাজে লাগাতে পারেনি। কংগ্রেসের পুর সদস্যরা আক্ষেপ ব্যক্ত করেন, নির্বাচিত জনপ্রতিনিধি হিসেবে কোনও সদস্য কোনও তহবিলের খোঁজ করতে নীহারবাবু সোজাসুজি বলে দেন, হিসেব দেওয়া যাবে না। তিনি তাঁদের আরটিআই জেনে নিতে পরামর্শ দেন। তাঁদেরই দলীয় প্রতিনিধি এই অঞ্চল থেকে সাংসদ হলে কী অবস্থা হবে, প্রশ্ন করেন তিনি। একই জিজ্ঞাসা সাংবাদিক সম্মেলনে উপস্থিত দীপন দেওয়ানজি, পার্থরঞ্জন চক্রবর্তী, সৌরীন্দ্রকুমার ভট্টাচার্য, বিভাসরঞ্জন চৌধুরীদের।

এ দিকে, চরম বিরোধের পরে বরফ কী করে গলল, এই প্রশ্নের জবাবে তমালবাবু অন্য দশ রাজনৈতিক নেতারই মত বিরোধের কথা বেমালুম অস্বীকার করেন। তাঁর কথায়, আমি মিডিয়ার কাছ থেকেই বিরোধের কথা জানতে পারি। আমি কখনও সুস্মিতা দেবের বিরুদ্ধে কোনও মন্তব্য করিনি। তেমনি সাংসদও আমার বিরুদ্ধে কিছু বলেননি। তবে এক সঙ্গে সংগঠন করতে গেলে ইস্যুভিত্তিক মতান্তর হতেই পারে, মন্তব্য জুড়েন তিনি।

 

April 5: Finally, ending all speculations of a wide rift, former Municipal Chairperson Tamal Kanti Banik stood beside Congress candidate Sushmita Dev. During the last Assembly elections, the relationship between them worsened on the issue of getting party ticket. Tamal Banik, Saibal Dutta and Atanu Bhattacharjee also raised apprehensions about the works of MP Silchar. Due to their strong hold, it seemed that the Town Congress slipped away from the bag of Miss Dev. However, Sushmita was successful in drawing them close to her just on the eve of Lok Sabha polls. They also appeared to have wiped away the bitter past and come close to her.

After lot of persuasion, Tamal Banik, the main ticket seeker of the Assembly Elections agreed to campaign for Congress candidate Sushmita Dev. On Friday, a Press Conference was organised at District Congress Office wherein former Chairperson of Silchar Municipal Board (SMB), Tamal Banik was the centre of attraction. He trained guns at the BJP-led Silchar Municipal Board. He severely criticised the policies adopted by the present SMB Chairperson Niharendra Narayan Tagore.

Tamal fired logical bullets one after another towards Niharendra Narayan Tagore, Chairperson of SMB. In front of all Congress Municipal Commissioners except Ranjan Roy, Mr. Banik said that the the Congress never kept its promise given to the people. He added that during the last Lok Sbha polls, this party (BJP) made 37 promises, out of which 24-25 were not touched at all by the party. He alleged that a syndicate raj prevailed under the nose of SMB Chairperson. Moreover, no work was done in those wards where the Municipal Commissioner belonged to congress.

He further accused the Chairperson of ‘unfit to do any work properly.’ He said that when Congress stepped down from the Municipal Board, it had kept a sanctioned amount of Rs. 21 Lakh with the SMB, but the next Board formed by Advocate Thakur failed to utilise this money properly. The Congress Ward Commissioners alleged that Municipal Chairperson behaves rudely when any elected Ward Commissioner asked for any information regarding various funds and used to advice them to file RTI. The allegations got support from Dipan Dewanjee, Partha Ranjan Chakraborty, Dr. Saurindra Kumar bhattacharjee and Dr. Bibhas Ranjan Choudhury.

Meanwhile, when asked about the secret of ending the rift with Sushmita Dev, former Municipal Chairperson Tamal Kanti Banik said to way2barak: “There was never any rift of mine with Susmita Dev. I have never made any comments against her and neither she has ever spoken of any ill against me. The rift is a hype created by the media.” He further added that when different people work in an organisation, there may be some issue-based differences of opinion, but that does not mean that anybody is against the party or any individual.”
