10-day long Barak Book Fair came to an end, Souvenir released by VC

November 18:Barak Book Fair which began on 9 November came to an end today. A formal programme was organised to mark an end to the 10-day long festival of book lovers of this valley. The programme was presided over by Taimur Raja Choudhury, President of the Cachar  District Committee of Barak Upottaka Banga Sahitya O Sanskriti Sammelan. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath, Vice Chancellor of Assam University. Sumitra Dutta was present as the Guest of Honour.

A souvenir to mark the occasion was formally released by Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath, Vice Chancellor of Assam University. The souvenir entitled ‘BoiKotha’ contains articles by eminent literary personalities. During the release of the souvenir, the other office bearers of Banga Sahita including its Central President Dr. Sourindra Kumar Bhattacharjee, Sabyasachi Roy, Jayanta Deb Roy, Pradip Acharjee, Uttam Kumar Saha were present on the dias.

Speaking during the occasion, Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath, Vice Chancellor of Assam University highlighted the importance of books in the lives of human beings. Taking a dig at the present teaching community, Prof.Nath said that teachers now-a-days finish their responsibility by giving photocopy of notes in the class. As a result, students never get a chance to get exposure to books. He rather suggested that the habit of reading books should be inculcated by the teachers in the class room itself. He expressed anguish at the less footfall in the Book Fair and urged upon the organisers to devise ways and means so that more and more people could be attracted to thsi fair.

In this address, Taimur Raja Choudhury, President of the Cachar  District Committee of Banga Sahitya put forth the various barriers which they had to overcome in order to organise the Book Fair. Mr. Choudhury was all in praises of his entire team who stood beside him to make the Fair a grand success. He also assured that they would definitely devise ways and means so that the Book Fair 2019 could attract more crowd.

The formal function of the closing ceremony was followed by cultural programme in which different artist groups presented songs and dance performances.
