৩ নভেম্বর : রাজনীতির মাঠে একে অন্যের প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী, কিন্তু বাঙালির অস্তিত্বের প্রশ্নে সবাই একজোট। ফলে শনিবার বনধ সমর্থনে দেখা গেল, শাসক শিবির, কংগ্রেস ও সিপিএম সবাই একযোগে বাঙালি হত্যার প্রতিবাদে শামিল। কাছাড়ের জেলাশাসকের কার্যালয়ের সামনে বা শিলচর শহরের অন্যত্র, সব রাজনৈতিক দলের কর্মী ও সমর্থকরা পিকেটার হিসেবে হাজির। এমন ছবি সত্যিই বিরল। প্রশাসন যখন পিকেটারদের গ্রেফতারের পর বাসে করে অস্থায়ী জেলে নিয়ে যাচ্ছে, তখন বাসের মধ্যেও ভিন্ন রাজনৈতিক মতাদর্শীরা মিলেমিশে একাকার। তারা দেখিয়ে দিলেন, অস্তিত্বের সংকট হলে বা ভাষার প্রশ্ন উঠলে মিলেমিশে আন্দোলনে ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়তে কেউ পিছপা হন না। করিমগঞ্জে তাতে সামিল ছিল এআইইউডিএফ-ও।

সকালে শহরের ক্যাপিটাল পয়েন্টে কংগ্রেস পিকেটাররা বনধ সমর্থনে জড়ো হয়েছিলেন। তখন সেখানে বাইক র‍্যালি করে হাজির হন হিন্দু সংহতির সদস্যরা। তারাও প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী দলটির সঙ্গে কোনও সংঘাতে যাননি। বরং সাহায্য করেছেন। দশটা নাগাদ জেলাশাসকের কার্যালয়ের সামনে পিকেটাররা কর্মচারীদের কার্যালয়ে ঢুকতে বাধা দেন। তখন সেখানে ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট আন্দোলনকারীদের সরে যেতে ৫ মিনিট সময় দেন। কিন্তু কেউ পিছু না হটলে পরে তাদের গ্রেফতার করা হয়। সেখানেও বিজেপি, কংগ্রেস সবাই ছিলেন। দুপুরের দিকে বনধ সমর্থনে সিপিআই এক মিছিল বের করে জেলাশাসকের কার্যালয়ে যায়। পুলিশ তাদেরও গ্রেফতার করে অস্থায়ী জেলে পাঠায়।

এ দিকে, বরাক উপত্যকার বিভিন্ন স্থানে শনিবার স্বতঃস্ফূর্ত বনধ পালন হলেও দু একটি স্থান থেকে ছোটখাটো ঘটনার খবর পাওয়া গেছে। দুপুরে মেহেরপুর এলাকায় কয়েকজন দোকান খোলা রাখলে সামান্য অস্থির অবস্থার সৃষ্টি হয়। কয়েকজন পিকেটার প্রতিবাদ করেন। খবর পাওয়া মাত্র ছুটে যায় পুলিশ ও সিআরপিএফ। খুব তাড়াতাড়ি উত্তেজনা শান্ত হয়ে পড়ে। শহরের নেতাজি পয়েন্টেও সামান্য উত্তেজনার খবর পাওয়া গেছে।

November 3: In an unprecedented scene, the two arch rivals Congress & BJP were seen to jointly demonstrate in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar during the 12-hour bandh called by a number of organizations. On Saturday, this rare instance was sighted by thousands, who were jointly protesting the inhuman killing of five innocent Bengalis in Tinsukia district of Assam on Thursday night. A similar scene was also witnessed at Karimganj and Hailakandi. At Karimganj, AIUDF also was seen along with Congress and BJP.

At Silchar, Congress party workers led by the District President Pradip Kumar Dey was found to carry on protest demonstration near the Capital Point. Barricades were built up with bamboo poles so that no vehicles could ply. Speaking to way2barak, District Congress President Pradip Kumar Dey said that the bandh was total successful. He further thanked the BJP for supporting the bandh actively.

Meanwhile the bandh was reported to be largely peaceful. People were seen to participate in the bandh spontaneously. A few isolated incidents though occured, but situation was very soon brought under control. At afternoon, a few shops were opened at Meherpur area, which led to heated exchange of words with the picketers. Police and CRPF rushed to the spot and soon the situation became normal. At Rangirkhari point too, there was information of some bandh supporters burning tyres in the mid of the road.
