W2B: What was your first reaction on being approached for Mili The Girl Next Door?
Debasmita: I was skeptical about this. Because this was my first ever venture for a short film. Moreover, the role was quite challenging.

W2B: What was your experience working with Raajveer as director?
Debasmita: It was indeed a great experience to have worked with such an enthusiastic team. Rajveer as a director left no stone unturned to bring out the best from all of us.

W2B: What social message does the short film convey?
Debasmita: This particular short film, “Mili, the girl next door” is an attempt to showcase the disability of our vulnerable society to safeguard the dignity of women as a whole, irrespective of any age. Through this we want to present an instinct of how self defense can come into handy at the most required point of time.

W2B: You have been associated with a number of exciting projects over the years both in the sphere of culture as well as social work. What is your opinion about the “short film” genre as a means to achieve change in public opinion?
Debasmita: The genre of short film has really become popular these days. It can powerfully portray a well built fictional or factual message, which if is good enough can be screened in local, national and international standards. Short film can be a dynamic platform to budding talents who really seek for opportunities or a wholesome break. Even the established actors and directors try their hand in short film genre now a days because of its inflated demand. I would urge the youngsters to involve more into this particular genre if they have some productive thoughts to manifest socially.

W2B: And lastly, what kind of creative work do you want to involve yourself in the future?
Debasmita: I am quite new and amateur to acting. This is my learning phase. I take it as my passion beside my teaching profession. I would like to be a part of this type of creativity, if I get a good script which can also act as a social message.

For now, I anticipate everyone’s good wishes and support for “Mili” because this will encourage me to crusade further.

(The multifaceted Debasmita is associated with various cultural, fashion and social endeavours and currently teaches Life Science at Cachar College, Silchar. The film releases on 22nd July under the RV Films banner)
