DARPAN portal by AHSEC for admission of HS 1st year students non-functional till now

Aug. 7: In order to process the Admission of students into HS First Year courses for the session 2021-22 in different institutions (Universities/ Degree Colleges/ Senior Secondary Schools/ Higher Secondary Schools) under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), a common Online Portal “DARPAN” has been developed for convenience of both the institutions as well as students in this hard time of COVID-19.

For participation in the process, institutions with valid AHSEC codes have to create their profiles by providing their institutions’ details into the Portal by visiting  www.darpan.ahseconline.in  or www.darpan.ahseconline.in from 4 to 9 August, 2021.

On completion of profile creation by the institutions, students will be able to apply online for admission into different institutions through the above mentioned websites from 11 to 25 August, 2021. Thereafter, the institutions will publish the category-wise merit list within 31 August, 2021.

However, on 5 August, 2021, the site “DARPAN” probably crashed and a message was put up by AHSEC which read, “This is for information of all concerned that due to some unavoidable circumstances, the portal could not be opened on 04-08-2021. New date to open the portal will be communicated in due course of time.” On 7 August, 2021, this particular message was removed from the “DARPAN” website and a new message was put therein, which stated, “Portal will be live soon. It is for information of all concerned that DARPAN portal will be live soon.- AHSEC.”

Now, this has become a major cause of concern for both the students and the institutions. While interacting with way2barak, Principals of 2 colleges of Silchar said, “As the Darpan web portal is non-functional, how can the institutions get enrolled themselves? We have not yet received any clear cut instruction whether this web portal will be compulsory or optional. Moreover, as per media reports, we came to know that only those students who have passed HSLC only this year (2021) and that too from SEBA will be eligible for admission through Darpan portal and students who passed HSLC prior to 2021 will also be unable to apply through this portal. If this is true, what we will do with students passing from other boards and CBSE? We feel that the Education Department should come up with details notification addressing all such issues at the earliest.”

Many such questions and doubts remained and needs immediate clarification on the part of AHSEC or the state Education Department so that the admission process can be conducted in a smooth manner. Guardians also expressed a similar opinion. One of the guardian whose daughter passed HSLC from a private school in Silchar said, “When we ask the college Principals about the admission procedure, they are unable to give us any concrete reply. So what should we do. Those who are taking admission in schools run by CBSE are not facing any such type of hassle or gap of communication. I think the Assam government should immediately come up with detailed notification so that our wards can take admission in HS 1st year at the earliest.”

way2barak spoke with an official of AHSEC on this matter. He said, “We too are waiting for a Government notification in this regard. Only after getting a green signal from the government, the portal Darpan will go live. Institutions need not worry for the last date of registration (9 August) in the portal, as the date will be likely to be exteended.”

State Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu during an interaction with the media stated that admission in HS 1st year will be done this year through a common single web portal in order to maintain uniformity. He also stated that the students can enroll themselves for admission through this portal by providing their Roll Number. The students while enrolling themselves in this common admission portal can opt for a maximum of 5 colleges. The schools/ colleges then will prepare a selection list and update it in this portal.
