Shibam Multimedia Production pays tribute to D.L. Ray on his 107th death anniversary

May 17: Amidst the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent lockdown, life seems to come to a standstill. Though people were unable to celebrate many events and occasions during the last few months, yet the creative mind of human beings just cannot be caged. Even a global pandemic can’t stand in the way of showcasing the artistic flair within the people and henceforth, social media has been flooded with the creative and cultural activities of such people. Social media has also become the sole platform for entertainment staying within the safe confines of the home.


Dwijendralal Ray, famously known as D. L. Ray, was a Bengali poet, playwright and musician who was born on 19 July, 1863. He was the composer of innumerable ‘Dwijendrageeti’ among which ”Dhana Dhanya Pushpa Bhara” is one of his masterpiece. In this song he says, “আমার এই দেশেতে জন্ম যেন, এই দেশেতে মরি” which reflects his strong patriotism towards his motherland. He took his last breath on 17 May, 1913.

Therefore, on account of his 107th death anniversary, four emerging dancers of the town- Kaushima Choudhury, Kuheli Bhattacharjee, Sanjita Debnath and Digbijita Nath payed tribute to him through his famous composition. The video has been created and coordinated by Shibam Das, Director of Shibam Multimedia Production, Silchar.
The dance was performed to the song sung by Riddhi Bandyopadhyay.
