FIR filed, CBI enquiry demanded by APW against Hajela for misappropriation of govt. money

November 28: Alleging massive misappropriation of government money, Assam Public Works (APW), a civil society group in Assam lodged an FIR against former NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela at the the Anti-Corruption Branch, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Guwahati. One Rajib Deka on behalf of APW. In the FIR, deamand was made to inquire into the whole process of utilisation of the fund of Rs 1600 crore by CBI, which was released by the Centre.

In the FIR, Deka stated that the fund of Rs.1600 crore was spent through the then NRC Coordinator Prateek Hajela. It is in this process of spending this amount that Hajela has misappropriated the government money. A large number of illegalities, financial irregularities has been committed to making the different expenditure.

The APW further demanded an investigation into the appointment of numbers of retired government officers as the advisors of Hajela. In the FIR it was mentioned that these retired officers were provided with new vehicles and handsome salaries. APW alleged that while money had been spent, it is not known what types of work have been done by the advisers and it is also not audited by CAG.

Further allegation was made regarding engagement of school teachers in the process of NRC. APW stated that though huge money is shown to have been paid to such teachers, but in reality, the teachers engaged in NRC updation process were not paid anything.

Mass anomalies were also pointed out in the FIR as regards the purchase of 10,000 laptops. APW stated in the FIR that Hajela purchased each Laptop at the cost of Rs 44,000, whereas the market price of the same Laptop is Rs 22,500 only.

Earlier, a lawyer and a indigenous Muslim students organisation filed two separate FIRs against Hajela in Dibrugarh and Guwahati.
