Principal was present in Teachers’ Day programme, Students’ Union of RMC clarified

৭ সেপ্টেম্বরঃ একাংশ ছাত্রের ‘ঔদ্ধত্যে’র প্রতিবাদে শিক্ষক দিবসের অনুষ্ঠান বয়কট করেছিল রাধামাধব কলেজের শিক্ষকরা। অধ্যক্ষ প্রণয় রঞ্জন দেবও বলেছিলেন, শিক্ষকরা বাধ্য হয়ে এমন সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছেন। ছাত্র সংসদের পক্ষে এবিভিপি নেতারা শুক্রবার এই ধরনের বক্তব্যের বিরোধিতা করেন। ছাত্র সংসদের প্রাক্তন সাধারণ সম্পাদক চন্দ্রকান্ত দাস বলেন, অধ্যক্ষ নিজে শিক্ষক দিবসের অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন। ফলে শিক্ষক ছাড়া শিক্ষক দিবসের অভিযোগ মানা যায় না। তাঁরা শিক্ষকদের অনুষ্ঠান বয়কটের কারণ বা যৌক্তিকতা সম্পর্কেও সন্দিহান। চন্দ্রকান্তের কথায়, ছাত্রদের পাশে দাঁড়ানোয় কখনও তাঁদের উদ্ধত বলা হচ্ছে, আবার কখনও অভিভাবক ডাকা হচ্ছে। চন্দ্রকান্ত বলেন, কলেজে সরকার ভর্তি ফি মকুব করেছে। অন্য বিভাগ ওই নির্দেশ পুরো মেনে চললেও ব্যতিক্রম বাণিজ্য বিভাগ। এই বিভাগে ছাত্রদের কাছ থেকে ফি আদায় করা হয়েছে। ছাত্র সংসদ অভিযোগ করলে শিক্ষকরা জানান, এই বিভাগটি এখনও রাজ্য সরকারের অনুমোদন পায়নি। তাই এই বিভাগে সরকার ফি মকুব করছে না। এত বছরেও কেন অনুমোদন পেল না। অনুমোদনের জন্য কলেজের পক্ষ থেকে কী কী করা হয়েছে, এর কাগজপত্র দেখাতে বললেই নানা দোষারোপ করা হচ্ছে। বলা হচ্ছে, গুপ্তনথি দেখতে চাইছে। অনুমোদনের জন্য লেখালেখি কি গুপ্ত নথি, প্রশ্ন করেন চন্দ্রকান্ত।

শিক্ষকরা পড়াতে পারেন না বলে সিনিয়র ছাত্র দিয়ে পড়ানোর দাবির কথাও এবিভিপি নেতারা অস্বীকার করেন। তাঁদের বক্তব্য, ‘শিক্ষকদের যোগ্যতা নিয়ে প্রশ্ন তোলার স্পর্ধা আমাদের নেই। আমরা শুধু প্রথম বর্ষের ছাত্রদের সঙ্গে পড়াশোনা নিয়ে কথা বলতে চেয়েছিলাম। যে কোনও সময় ক্লাশে ঢুকে কথা বলার চেয়ে আমরা অনুমতি নিয়ে একেক ক্লাশে একেকদিন যেতে চেয়েছিলাম।’

September 7: Due to the ‘unruly’ behavior of a section of the students, the teachers of Radhamadhab College abstained from attending the Teachers’ Day programme. Dr. P.R. Deb, Principal of the College also said that the teachers became bound to take such decision. On behalf of the Students’ Union of the college, ABVP leaders criticized such kind of statements given by the Principal. Chandrakanta Das, former General Secretary of the Students’ Union said that the Principal himself was present in the Teachers’ Day programme. As such, the allegation ‘Teachers’ Day was observed without teachers could not be accepted.” He further said that they could not find any valid reason for the teachers to boycott the Teachers’ Day programme.

Chandrakanta said that for standing beside the students, they have been branded as ‘unruly’ and even their parents were called by the authority. He also said that the state government has given fees relaxation for the economically backward students. But though fees relaxation was given for admission in Arts stream, the students of Commerce stream had to pay full amount for their admission. He said that, whenever the Students’ Union raises such issue, the teachers opine that as Commerce stream is still in a venture stage so fees relaxation will not be permitted. Why was commerce not provincialised for so long? What efforts were made by the college for getting the commerce stream sanctioned by the college? They argued that when they ask the authority to show them the documents related to commerce stream, they are alleged of demanding for secret documents. Chandrakanta asked, “Is it illegal to try for getting the commerce stream sanctioned by us?”

The members of the Students’ Union further denied the allegation that they have demanded instead of the teachers of the college, the H.S. 1st year classes would be taken by students nominated by them. They said, “We don’t have the audacity to question the capability of the teachers.” We only wanted to interact with the students about academic matters. We thought it unwise to enter the class of HS 1^st year without prior permission. So we sought permission from the Principal to interact with the students of HS 1^st year so that we can know the problems faced by them in different subjects.
