Assam Govt to provincialise 5649 schools & colleges with 19,258 teachers

January 25: In a significant development, Assam Government will soon embark upon provincialisation of 4993 schools with 13,362 s teachers at elementary level, 626 schools with 4828 teachers at secondary level and 30 new colleges with 900 teachers posts at higher education level along with 168 posts in 134 already provincialized colleges. This means that the state government in total is going to provincialise almost 5649 schools and colleges wherein a total of 19,258 teachers will be recruited.

This was announced by Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a press conference held in Guwahati. The Minister also declared that his government has decided to recruit 665 posts of faculties in college level. The Principals of colleges will have the authority to fill the vacant posts in next 6 months. He further informed that the Issues of job security, pay disparity & health for contractual teachers will also be taken.

Sarma also tweeted, “For the Higher Education Dept, various new colleges, universities, higher and technical schools/ colleges, Law and B.Ed colleges will be established within 6 months. The problems of Computer teachers will also be addressed.”

The Education Minister also announced that within the next 6 months, some of the important like introduction of Science stream in colleges, setting up of 100 high schools in tea gardens and upgradation of high schools to higher secondary schools will be taken up by his government.

Himanta in a tweet stated, “An amount of 962.93 crores will be released to SMDC for construction of ACR in 10702 schools in 13564 units, partition wall in 7813 schools in 10472 units, boys toilets in 1379 schools and for electrification in 37560 schools.”

As regards visit of teachers to the Department of Education, the Minister said, “Teacher communities are humbly requested to take prior appointments in order to visit Education Dept officials. Govt will also undertake and resolve issues of illegal/irregular teachers in the Elementary Education Dept.”
