Global Climate Strike Day observed by Fridays For Future Barak Valley

26 Sept : 25 September, 2020 is being observed as Global climate strike day all over the world, including India. On that day, demonstrations and manifestations took place all across the globe to demand urgent action to tackle the climate crisis. During the last few months, the Covid-19 pandemic has forced activists to find new ways of protest and use digital activism to demand climate action.

Youths took the streets in Silchar and Lakhipur on Friday abiding by COVID-19 regulations during the Global Climate Strike & Action Day under the banner of  ‘Fridays For Future Barak Valley’. It was indeed a praiseworthy demonstration by the youths maintaining social distancing.

Fridays For Future Barak Valley was accompanied during the day by ‘March For Science’  and ‘People’s Science Society Silchar Chapter’ during the demonstration at Silchar. The agenda was to make people aware about the climate crisis and also bring Climate Justice. On this Global Climate Strike Day, the youths urged upon each and everyone to reduce the use of Plastic Poly Bags as change in our habits. This was the main theme of the day.

Also, deforestation, water pollution, air pollution and river bank pollution and general awareness on environmental issues was demonstrated by using different colourful posters. ‘Fridays For Future Barak Valley’ urged upon each and every individual to join the Global Climate Justice Movement to mitigate the Climate Crisis and fight climate injustice.

Speaking during the occasion, one of the organisers said, “We request everyone to do their part on an individual level by changing our daily habits and practices that are harmful for the environment. We thank each and everyone for supporting us and also our members for coming out in this pandemic situation for demonstration. We want Climate Justice Right Now Right Here, also we need to treat crisis as crisis before it’s to late for us to act.”
